Our History
The legacy of Slater & Son began over 65 years ago.
After trying his hand as a truck driver, apple farmer, and high school shop teacher, Don found his niche as a general building contractor. In 1948, Don Slater started Donald H. Slater Construction.
In 1978, after finishing graduate school and working as a commercial/industrial real estate broker, Don’s son Howard joined the firm.
He became president in 1982 and changed the company name to Slater & Son. Howard’s interest centered on commercial/industrial construction and Design/Build services.
Since that time, Slater & Son has continued to build its reputation in this area and has completed hundreds of projects.
After completing his Construction Management degree at California State University, Chico in 2006 and working for 5 years as a project manager for West Coast Contractors, Howard’s son Brandon became the third generation to carry Don Slater’s values in to the future.
